Late Night Glazing Lesson

It is September, and fall is now definitely in the air. Excellent sleeping weather is upon us! And now that winter is encroaching, it is time for that age-old Midwestern tradition, winterizing! Our house (circa 1937) has been in need of window reglazing for a couple of years. The old putty is literally falling away from the panes. This actually makes our job MUCH easier, since reglazing windows requires the complete removal of old putty.

Here is my mom’s partner, Bob (a tool master and amazing woodworker), giving us a late night lesson on how the process works. If you look closely, you can see places where putty has fallen away from some of the other window panes. He + my mom (who is a stained glass window artist) have slightly differing methods of reglazing, so we’re very lucky to have 2 experts to show us how to do it. We are also really lucky that we only have 7 windows on our tiny house..this whole project, once we really get going, should only take a couple weekends. :)
